The celebration of the #brave bald2024 event held by the Semarang Branch of the Indonesian Cancer Children"s Love Foundation (YKAKI) was successful and fun. The event which was centered at The Park Mall, Semarang and lasted for 2 days Saturday – Sunday (24 – 25 February 2024) involved at least 1000 participants.
This activity to commemorate International Child Cancer Day 2024 was attended by PKK cadres, arts communities, studios throughout Semarang City as well as children who were cancer survivors and their parents who participated in singing and coloring competitions. Meanwhile, there were no less than 80 participants who took part in the #daretobebald and shaved together challenge.
Branch Head of the Indonesian Cancer Children"s Love Foundation (YKAKI) Semarang, Vita Mahaswari, said that the #beranigundul event has become a routine agenda held by YKAKI to support the donation movement for children who are cancer survivors. The #beranigundul event was also held at YKAKI branches spread across various cities in Indonesia.
Meanwhile, a series of other supporting activities enlivened this event, namely; Childhood Cancer Education Outreach, Cooking Class, Singing Competition, Art Performance, We Are Charity Run, Poundfit, Zumba, Blood Donation, Team Shaving, and Coloring Competition.
Furthermore, Vita explained that thanks to support from community figures, the #beranigundul 2024 event had succeeded in raising funds amounting to Rp. 245,125,500,-.
Funds collected from donations, continued Vita, will be used to finance the operation of temporary housing facilities (halfway houses) for child cancer patients and one companion for as long as they are in need. At least every day YKAKI has to disburse funds for around 20 people who live in halfway houses.
"For this reason, donors can donate at any time, not necessarily during the event, by transferring to BCA account 0093435777 in the name of the Indonesian Cancer Children"s Love Foundation," said Vita.
#daretobebald2024 challenge
The 2024 #beranigundul challenge has participants from various circles, including entrepreneurs, teachers, cultural activists, lecturers, journalists and others who take part in the procession with joy.
CEO of PT Marimas Putra Kencana Harjanto Halim, who participated in #beranigundul2024, said he was interested in taking part in the #beranigundul challenge as a form of empathy and solidarity with children who are cancer survivors.
Harjanto recounted his first experience of being shaved at the Dare to Be Bald event. There was a spiritual experience that I experienced, a kind of feeling of sincerity that was released.
"If hair can grow again, cut it, shave it, shave it like anything, it can grow again. But I think building empathy and solidarity is important," he said.
Cultural activist Henny Kidawati Djatmiko joined #beranigundul. Apart from sympathizing and empathizing with children who are cancer survivors, he also dedicated it to Arthur Calvino, who was a victim of the Bali bombing. Apart from that, Henni"s shave was also intended as a vow because the cough he had suffered from for the last 6 years was completely cured.
“The process of accepting, forgiving, letting go, surrendering and letting go took eighteen years. A process that was not easy and painful, but finally I was able to overcome it. "When there is acceptance and surrender in gratitude, that"s where I have everything without limits," said Henny with gratitude.
Meanwhile, a woman with long hair, Shima Metta Sintasari, who came all the way from Blora, was a participant in #dare to be bald. This woman, whose daily work is as a Buddhist teacher in her city, is taking this step as a form of empathy for childhood cancer victims. “I can"t donate blood, my parents can"t donate eyes. So I usually donate this hair. "I"m willing to shave off my long hair," said the former Dhamma TV presenter, concluding the conversation.
