Transforming Gedung Kesenian Palembang into a Cultural and Arts Hub

The Head of the Palembang City Cultural Department, Ir. H. M. Affan Prapanca, MT. IPM, along with his team, received an audience and fostered ties with the Batang Hari 9 Cultural Community (Kobar 9) at the Palembang City Cultural Department Meeting Room. The meeting took place on Friday (5/4/24).
Present at the meeting were Kobar 9 Chairman, Vebri Al Lintani, alongside members such as Isnayanti Syafrida, Kemas Ari Panji, RM Husin, and Dudy Oskandar.
According to Vebri, the purpose of the meeting was to collaborate and synergize with the Palembang City Government through its Cultural Department, particularly in the realms of art and culture.
"We have contributed significantly to the cultural development of Palembang, one example being our advocacy for Gedung Kesenian Palembang to serve as the focal point for artistic and cultural activities in the city," he stated.
Vebri emphasized that the Gedung Kesenian Palembang was previously used for socialization and artistic events. He expressed gratitude to the Cultural Department for its refurbishment and the allocation of funds for the building"s Detailed Engineering Design (DED). Their vision is for the Palembang Art Building to be the most beautiful structure in the BKB area (BKB stands for something, but the expansion isn"t provided in the text), serving as a hub for cultural and artistic endeavors, bustling with activity 24/7.
"We want to gather artists and host numerous cultural and artistic activities there," Vebri added.
In response, Ir. H. M. Affan Prapanca, MT. IPM, affirmed that his department would support any initiatives aimed at benefiting the community, including the utilization of the Gedung Kesenian Palembang.
"We agree that the art building should be optimized. The local government just needs to adhere to the regulations regarding municipal property ownership. As Vebri mentioned, the local government could generate revenue from it," he remarked.
He also stressed the importance of renovating and ensuring the comfort of the Gedung Kesenian Palembang, harkening back to its historical use as a center for community activities, especially in the realms of art and culture.
During the meeting, proposals were also made for Palembang to develop its own welcoming dance and to undertake efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of Benteng Kuto Besak.
