Theater Satu together with Pusbalin Language and Literature Brings Literary Figures to the Theatre

Theater Satu Lampung collaborates with the Center for Development and Protection (Pusbanglin) for Language and Literature to hold a Biographical Fiction (Biofic) Theater Festival for Indonesian Literary Figures. This festival is a celebration of theater arts that celebrates important figures in the world of Indonesian literature through performances, discussions and workshops.
The General Chair of Theater Satu Lampung, Iswadi Pratama, said in Bandar Lampung, Saturday (19/10), that this festival is known as "Bio-Fiction" because it combines historical facts with imagination to reconstruct unrecorded events.
"Teateater Satu together with Pusbanglin have held a drama script writing competition and workshop with the theme of Indonesian literary figures in 2023. "This time it is a form of performance," said Iswadi, who is also the director of Theater Satu Lampung.
It was further said that in the competition, eight of the best manuscripts were selected which had been recorded digitally. The stories from these texts are now being brought to the stage in the form of theatrical performances.Literary figures brought to the stage include; Utuy Tatang Sontani, Idrus, Buya Hamka to Ratna Indahswari.
"We held performances, discussions and workshops, the Biofic Festival series took place from September 13 2004 to October 22 2024," said Iswadi.
Iswadi further explained that from the curated results the theater groups from Lampung were selected, namely; UKMBS Unila Bandar Lampung Kurusetra Theater (Ratna Indraswari"s script "Fireflies"), Sangkar Mahmud North Lampung (Ratna Indrawswari"s script, "Fireflies") performed on the first day, Sunday (20/10/2024). On the second day, Monday (21"10/2024), the Sebelas Bandar Lampung Theater performed (Script: "AKI: Aku Memories of Idrus"), the South Lampung Guerrilla Arts Studio. (Script: "Those Who Fight and Fade in Peking") and on the third day, Tuesday (22/10/2024), the JABAl Tanggamus Theater (Script: Plucking Words from the Sky"), and the West Lampung Gauri Theater (Script: "Time Ends) in Your Eyes Onih”).These six theater groups from Lampung performed at the Lampung Arts Council (DKL) Performance Hall. The theater groups selected for the curation then take part in training which includes knowledge and skills in staging stories on stage. Guided by expert speakers, such as Ari Pahala Hutabarat, Ahmad Jusmar, Imas Sobariah, and Iswadi Pratama.
Apart from hosting performances, this festival also presents discussion sessions in the Artist Talk event which will be broadcast live via Instagram.
"In this session, directors and managers from each selected theater group will share their views and experiences in bringing literary characters back to life through theater," he added.
Iswadi emphasized that the Biofic Theater Festival of Indonesian Literary Figures is proof of the dedication of Theater Satu Lampung to continue to develop and revive Indonesian literature-drama, which has so far received less attention than other literary genres such as poetry, short stories and novels.
Meanwhile, arts observer Hari Jayaningrat said he appreciated the steps taken by Theater Satu Lampung. So far, people are only familiar with the literary genres of poetry, short stories and novels.
"The Satu Lampung Theater"s steps are collaborating with the Indonesian Language and Literature Center to present literary figures to the theater stage while simultaneously promoting literary and theatrical works. "This is a smart step that should be appreciated," said Hari, who is also a member of the Lampung Academy.
