Spectacular, Carrying the Play “Pandawa Pitu” WOTS Hypnotizes Hundreds of Audience

The Wayang On The Street (WOTS) performance in the grand event of the 13th Old City Festival in 2024 was lively and lively. The 17th WOTS performance was witnessed by hundreds of people from children to the elderly who crowded the Metro Point area, Old City, Semarang, Friday, (06/09/2024).
WOTS, a collaboration between WO Ngesti Pandowo and Tirang Community, presented guest star Inayah Wahid, daughter of the 4th President of the Republic of Indonesia, Abdurrahman Wahid. This time, WOTS presented the play "Pandhawa Pitu" directed by Budi Lee with accompanying gamelan Githunk Swara and choreographer Paminto.
This spectacular WOTS performance was preceded by a cultural procession with a route from the RNI Building Yard on Jalan Mpu Tantular to Metro Point on Jalan Letjen Suprapto, Old City, Semarang.
The procession began with the punakawan from Edu House, namely Zach Auxilio Santosa (Semar), Axell Rayden Maximilian Kuncoro (Gareng), Alfarizqy Bushido Permana (Petruk), and Melvin Aldrich Sutrisno (Bagong) who will carry the Garuda Bird and Red and White Sangsaka symbols. Then followed by a line of interfaith figures from Pelita, namely; Wen Shi Andi Gunawan (Honghucu), Citra Resmi Wulangsih (Belief Adherent) Bagus Dwi Sukoco (Hindu), Naili Ni"matul Illiyyun- (Islam), Budi Bhawono (Buddhist), Sister Francis, PMY. (Catholic) and Reverend Nemuel Zega (Christian), the puppet children who will appear in the performance and followed by (SD Hj. Isriati Baituraman 2) Semarang. After entering the performance area, the Marching Band Gempita Nusantara ISBA 2 showed off their skills collaborating with gamelan from the Githung Swara karawitan. Then continued by singing the National Anthem "Indonesia Raya". Furthermore, interfaith figures led a joint prayer before the WOTS performance.Continued with the flashmob event "Gugur Gunung" which has the philosophy of unity in diversity, inviting various levels of society to dance together.
The series of cultural processions "Tribute to Ki Totok Pamungkas and Ki Wiradio" began with geguritan read by Director Budi Lee. A series of words that are the umbul of joint prayer to remember and appreciate the two artists who passed away not long ago. Ki Totok Pamungkas and Ki Wiradio are figures who have devoted themselves and have done a lot in the world of traditional arts including Wayang Orang.
The Bedayan dance performance presented by the Sobokartti Studio, the puppet children took to the stage. On that occasion, Mrs. Grace presented the award for Ki Totok Pamungkas to Mr. Darmadi from Sobokartti. While Mr. Djoko Mulyono presented the award for Ki Wiradio to his daughter Maya.

The Pandawa tried to free the punishment of the gods that was imposed on Prabu Pandu who was thrown into the heat of hellfire in the Candradimuka crater.
The twists and turns of the Pandawa"s struggle to create Pandawa Pitu which was not permitted by the gods, actually also threw him into the Candradimuka crater. Finally, Woro Sembodro and Srikandi came to Sang Hyang Wenang. Who was given advice on a way out, Woro Sembodro, Srikandi and the punakawan disguised themselves as buto who then destroyed heaven. Finally, with Batara Guru"s permission, the Pandawa were freed from the Candradimuka crater and Prabu Pandu Dewanata was also lifted from the torment of hellfire and moved to Swargaloka.
Head of Culture of Disbudpar Saroso Head of Disbudpar of Semarang City appreciated the WOTS event and the players who managed to present an interesting performance. Wayang Orang Ngesti Pandowo has been included in the WBTB of Kemendikbudristek. "Let"s continue to maintain it, let"s develop it together.
