Ruwahan and Sobokarti"s 103rd Anniversary Enlivened by a Puppet Performance "Pandu Swarga"

The Sobokartti Cultural Arts Association (Sanggar Seni Sobokartti) on March 5 2023 is entering its 104th year. In celebrating the anniversary of the oldest Cultural Arts Association in the city of Semarang, a shadow puppet show was held at the Sobokartti Arts Building, Jalan Dokter Cipto 31-33 Semarang, Wednesday (6/3/2024).
The collaboration performance of the three puppeteers is also for the Ruwahan event. Three young Sobokartti puppeteers Ki Muhammad Asyaril, Ki Andro Waka and Ki dr. Febri Gondo Sucipto collaborated to present the play "Pandu Swarga".
This wayang performance is timed to coincide with the approaching month of Ruwah and is also a place to send prayers to the ancestors. The wayang performance begins with the appearance of a little female puppeteer nicknamed: Ni Saraswati alias Bilqis Kanakawati Chaqastu.
The little puppeteer Cucunda from the Chair of the Central Java National Cultural Institute (LKN) Titin Redjeki presented the play "Brotoseno Ngudi Ilmu".
Before the performance begins, there is a group prayer, garlanding of jasmine strings and handing over of the wayang characters to be performed to the puppeteers.
Chairman of the Sobokartti Arts and Culture Association, Djamil Soetrisno Budoyodipuro, in his speech said that this activity was a form of appreciation for the elders who had founded the Sobokartti Association.
Soetrisno, further explained, based on the articles of association of the Volkskunsvereeneging Sobokartti March 5 1920, Soboraktti"s aim was to develop folk arts and increase the population"s appreciation of folk arts which was motivated by the ideas of several artistic figures, including; K..P.A Prangwedana, Dr Rajiman and Ir. Thomas Karstsen for founding the idea.
"Then on October 5, 1929 the Sobokartti Association just had an Arts Building which was once famous as Javaasche Wolkeuwburg or Javanese People"s Performance Building. "Until now, Sobokartti still exists, ignoring Javanese culture in the midst of the onslaught of globalization. We hope that in the future Sobokartti can exist more and be more successful," stressed Soetrisno.
Previously. Ki Suraji, who also acts as musical and play director, said that the play "Pandu Swarga" tells the story, starting from the anxiety of the Pandawa panegak Raden Ayra Werkudara. who felt sadness after the death of their parents, namely Prabu Pandu Dewanata and Dewi Madrim. Because it was Prabu Pandu"s mistake in daring to borrow Andini"s ox, Prabu Pandu and Dewi Madrim were punished in Yomaniloka or Hell.
Bima then went to the Candradimuka crater. The fiery mud in the crater realm churned violently, as if it would swallow anything that entered it. It can be seen that in the crater Pandu and Madrim experienced severe torture which did not last for a short time or even for months.
Bima"s heart was broken when he saw the suffering of his two beloved parents being tortured. And at that moment his determination flared to free them both at all costs.
Without hesitation, Bima jumped into the hot and turbulent Candradimuka crater.
A miracle soon happened. As soon as Bima plunged into the crater, the flames of the crater immediately subsided and eventually died out completely, losing their heat completely. Candradimuka Crater turns cool.
Pandu and Madrim, when they saw their son Bima, approached him and immediately hugged him with longing.
And at that moment the angels immediately came to pick up Pandu and Madrim. The two of them were then guided out of the Candradimuka crater and taken to Swargaloka.
It is indescribable how happy Bima felt watching that event. His struggle to relieve the suffering of his parents was successful.
