PGRI Palembang Alumni Alliance Demands Transparency in PGRI South Sumatra Leadership Election
Citizen News

Palembang, December 11, 2024 – The PGRI Palembang Alumni Alliance staged a protest regarding alleged violations in the preparation process for the election of the new chairperson and management of PGRI South Sumatra. The protest, led by Ade Syawal Diansyah, S.Pd, as the coordinator, highlighted concerns over irregularities that are believed to violate the organization"s Statutes and Bylaws (AD/ART).
The Alliance expressed suspicion of group interests that could jeopardize the neutrality and transparency of the election process. Additionally, they criticized the candidate registration process, which they deemed invalid due to its failure to follow proper procedures.
According to the Alliance, the proper registration process should include:
1. Forming a selection committee composed of PGRI South Sumatra board members and branch representatives.
2. Socializing the registration requirements to all PGRI branches across South Sumatra.
3. Establishing an independent Steering Committee (SC) and Organizing Committee (OC).
If these procedures are not followed and decisions are made solely by the chairperson and secretary, the Alliance considers the process illegitimate. They also urged PB PGRI (National PGRI Executive Board) to take over the election preparation to ensure fairness and maintain a conducive environment.
During the protest at the PB PGRI office, the delegation was received by Asep Deny, Secretary of the Higher Education PPLP Division. In response, Asep Deny stated that the demands from the Alliance would be forwarded to the PB PGRI leadership.
In addition to concerns about the election process, the Alliance demanded a financial audit of PGRI South Sumatra by a Public Accounting Firm. They stressed the importance of financial transparency, as members have raised concerns about unclear fund management, which may indicate potential misuse or corruption.
The Alliance announced plans to continue their action on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, to monitor progress on their demands. They also intend to hold a demonstration at the PGRI South Sumatra office to ensure their concerns are addressed and to reject any oligarchic interests within the organization.
“We demand that PB PGRI immediately take over this process and conduct a financial audit to ensure transparency and neutrality in the election of the new leadership,” said Ade Syawal Diansyah.
The protest aims to prompt concrete actions from PB PGRI to ensure that the PGRI South Sumatra leadership election proceeds fairly, transparently, and in accordance with the organization’s Statutes and Bylaws.
