Labor Protest Outside Bank Raya Indonesia in Palembang
Citizen News

Dozens of workers affiliated with the Indonesian Labor Federation (FBI) staged a protest on Monday (12/11/23) in front of the PT Bank Raya Indonesia Branch in Palembang. They demanded the payment of rights following the sale of PT Gading Cempaka Graha (PT GCG), a subsidiary of BRI.
According to the action coordinator, Andreas Okdi Priantoro, 115 former employees of PT GCG are demanding their unpaid rights, including salary arrears, holiday allowances (THR), and late payment penalties. Andreas referred to the decision of the Manpower and Transmigration Office of South Sumatra Province and the decision of the Central Jakarta Commercial Court.
Andreas explained that Bank Raya Indonesia stated that the value of the assets from the liquidation of PT GCG was insufficient to settle the debt, resulting in the workers" rights remaining unpaid. The workers urged Bank Raya Indonesia to promptly disburse these rights through the curator.
In a legal context, the workers" legal representative, Turiman, emphasized that banks should prioritize the payment of workers" rights according to the latest Job Creation Law. The workers stated they would take legal action if their rights were not paid, including reporting to the South Sumatra Regional Police for alleged embezzlement.
Bank Raya Palembang, represented by Community Branch Leader Taufik Hidayat, mentioned that the official decision would come from the central office in Jakarta. Nevertheless, this situation reflects uncertainty and tension between the workers and Bank Raya Indonesia regarding the payment of their rights.
