Fiesta Folkore Presents a Portrait of the Diversity of the City of Semarang and Indonesia

The 2024 Old Town Festival (FKL) grand event which was held from 5 – 15 September 2024. Kasawan Kota Lama, Semarng, Central Java was lively. FKL 2024 received appreciation from the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy, Sandiaga Uno, who was present at the Pikat Wastra Nusantara exhibition.
The 13th Old City Festival which carries the theme "Heritage in Diversity" is included in the flagship festival of the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy Kharisma Evet Nusantara (KEN). One of the interesting events was the Folkore stage which was held from 12 – 15 September in the courtyard of the RNI Building, Kota Lama, Semarang.
Chairman of the 2024 FKL Committee, Agung Suryono, said that this FKL activity aims to invite the public to preserve the historic area of Kota Lama so that it becomes a coveted international tourist destination and cultural heritage. Agus added that the FKL event has been included in the Kemenkraf Kharisma Event Nusantara (KEN) tourism activities agenda.
FKL 2024, which carries the title "Heritage in Diversity," continued Agus, displays cultural diversity in the city of Semarang, such as Javanese, Malay, Chinese and Arabic culture. Various interesting events, including Orchestra in Diversity, the Kota Lama River Competition, Sentiling Market Nostalgic Culinary, Wayang On the Streets, and International Fiesta Folklore, have been prepared to brighten up this festival.
Agus added that the Fiesta Folklore event was not only filled with artists from Semarang City but from various cities, including; from Yogyakarta, Central and East Kalimantan.
"It is hoped that this FKL will not only be a cultural celebration but also become a gathering and creative place for creative actors and art and culture history activists, it will strengthen the position of the Old City of Semarang as a center for arts and culture known at the national and international level," said Agus Suryono.Meanwhile, Fouder from the Indonesian Umbrella Festival (Fespin), Heru Mataya from Solo, said that the Fiesta Folklore Festival Kota Lama was very interesting and could be used as an attraction for this festival. "This Folkore event is authentic and the FKL Folkore Fiesta is one of the best folklore stages in Indonesia," praised Solo Art Market activist Heru Mataya, commenting.
Line Dance and Zumba Competition
Apart from that, FKL 2024 was also marked by Line Dance and Zumba Competitions. In this Line Dance and Zumba competition, the FKL Committee collaborated with Henny Kidawati Djatmiko from Tandawa Ratri and Irene Astuti.
Henny Kidawati Djatmiko said that this competition featured a jury of Icha (from the Line Dance Community), Rudy (Fashion) and Mrs. Rahayu Ndari Toeraini (Dance Teacher). Apart from the competition, there was also a performance featuring Tandawa Ratri, Astuti Berlian Group and Ane Song Group.
The line dance and Zumba competition and performance event lasted for two days. Appear as individual champion aged 35 - 50 years, namely; first place was Sofie, second, Ika Roehayati and third was Imelda. Meanwhile, the winner in the individual category aged 50 years and over; first place was Nining, second was Enyn and third was Jeani Srah M. For the group category the winners were; First is Malay Group 1, Second is Malay 2 and Third is Ane Song.
